I think my precalc book has a typo in the question and answer. Please help!! Very frustrated.?

I agree the 3 should be positive and it's probably a typo. Notice that the rounded answers the book gives are the same ones you found using a positive 3; that suggests that they calculated the rounded amounts using the correct sign, but misprinted the exact answer.
