How can Rudy Giuliani still be the frontrunner?

I live abroad so my exposure to the American media right now is limited, which may be why I don't understand how Rep. still favor a guy who's essentially a nutjob and a closet liberal. Granted, their choices are somehow limited but give me Thompson or McCain any day.
